Pay panel, officer shortage top commanders’ meet agenda

New Delhi, April 27: The Sixth Pay Commission recommendations and the sh-ortage of officers will dominate the biannual Army Commanders Conference that begins here on Monday. The conference, attended by the Army brass and chaired by General Deepak Kapoor, will also discuss a number of issues that impact operational readiness. Emphasis will be laid on “cyber security and improvement of communication systems”.

he five-day conference will discuss a variety of issues, including key promotions, and will examine reports submitted by key study groups into a review of Army uniforms and improving the quality of combat kits issued to soldiers.
“During the conference, the senior Army leadership will also interact with senior MoD officials. Issues of importance that impact on operational readiness and morale of troops will be progressed during the session,” an Army spokesperson said.
A special session will also be dedicated to examine steps for mitigating the shortage of officers and a study group on a new leave policy for Army officers will also come up for discussion. Besides, a report on the merger of Regimental Centres will also be presented at the conference.
“Among the important subjects to be discussed are improvement of welfare measures for serving soldiers and ex-servicemen, policy on conditions of service of women officers, streamlining procurement procedure, developing infrastructure in remote areas along the border and payment of rentals for land occupied by the Army in J&K and Northeast,” the spokesperson said.
