Film personalities condole Tendulkar’s death

MUMBAI: Leading film personalities on Monday condoled the death of noted Playwright Vijay Tendulkar and described his contributions to the Indian theatre.Noted Film director Shyam Benegal said: “Tendulkar was one of the greatest playwright of Indian theatre in the last 50 years. Tendulkar wrote screenplay of my films 'Nishant' and 'Manthan'. I respected his creativity and admired him as a human being.”“He was a senior professional from our field and his contribution to the Indian theatre was immense,” Benegal added. Film director Govind Nihlani said: “Tendulkar brought modernity to Marathi theatre. He pioneered a paradigm shift in the vision of looking at society and reflecting it through theatre and cinema.”Nihlani said that Tendulkar looked at things in the perspective of politics, social institutions and history and concentrated on the character he was presenting.He also described Tendulkar as “vanguard of modernity” and represented the golden age of Indian theatre. He brought the same sensibility to cinema through his film script.
